Komarov was born in Moscow in 1913. In 1933-1939 he studied at Moscow State Art Institute, from 1936 he took part in art exhibitions. In 1940-1945 Komarov was an artist of the Grekov Studio of Military Painting. In 1943 he became a member of the Artists Union of the USSR. Komarov took part in World War II. He fought at the Western Front, Stalingrad Front, South-Western Front, Leningrad Front, 3rd Ukrainian Front, 1st Belorussian Front. During the Battle of Stalingrad Komarov was in the disposition of the 39th Rifle Division of the 62nd Army. He was decorated with the Red Star Order, the Medal for the Defence of Stalingrad, the Medal for the Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945, and other rewards.
